Yukon Power Systems is a new company formed in 2014? from the assets purchased by Hatton Engine and Generators, Inc. from Klassen Engine Company in Seattle. Klassen Engine Company  in Seattle enjoyed a sterling reputation during their 38 years in business. Yukon, in the tradition of the former owners, will continue providing marine and industrial engines, generators, parts and service for Mitsubishi Diesel Engines, Fiat Powertrain Marine and Industrial Engines, and Isuzu Diesel Engines. As an independent organization, but with the affiliation of the Hatton group of companies, including Nebar, Hill Machine, Hatton Fabrication, and the large parent company, the capabilities of Yukon Power Systems have greatly expanded. Hatton Marine will continue as a dealer for Yukon (formerly Klassen) Power Products.The existing dealer network for Klassen Engine’s products are converting to the Yukon brand. Additional dealers and service companies will be added throughout the West Coast, Alaska, and Canada to cover areas not currently serviced. New product lines are under development, and will be introduced in 2014.

Klassen started marinizing Isuzu engines back in the early 60’s with the SUZIE brand name. Being one of the early pioneers in this field Klassen has been able to offer quality yet affordable Japanese marine diesel engines for both pleasure and commercial applications and being able to deal directly with the manufacture has allowed Klassen’s customers refrain from paying the middle man mark-ups felt by our completion’s customer base.

The SUZIE marine engine’s strength starts with its power source with high quality choices of Isuzu, Mitsubishi and Doosan models we offer a range of engines from 14 hp to 210 hp so we are sure we have your small to mid range engine requirements covered.

History

Klassen Diesel Sales Ltd. was founded in 1965 by Victor Klassen in Richmond, B.C.  Victor saw a need for dependable and fuel efficient marine engines and generator sets.  Isuzu Diesel Engines were imported, and Victor successfully designed a marinization of the engines.

Suzie® Diesel Engines, and Lecset® Generator Sets powered by Isuzu Diesel Engines quickly developed a reputation for quality and durability.  As the reputation grew, so did the customer base.  Remote Canadian fishing lodges, canneries, logging camps, and construction companies joined the list of Klassen customers.

In 1976, in response to demand from U.S. customers, Klassen opened a Seattle based branch, located in the Ballard area near Fishermen’s Terminal.  Victor constructed a modern shop and warehouse and  the success of the Seattle operation mirrored the Canadian operation.  Shortly after, a satellite branch was opened in Bellingham, WA.

1990 saw the opening of a branch near Victoria, on Vancouver Island in Saanichton, B.C.  This new shop and warehouse provided support for the multitude of commercial fisherman, logging camps, and boat builders located on Vancouver Island.

A restructuring of the manufacturing responsibilities of the branches for a more efficient operation, and partly due to improved transportation services led to the closure of the Bellingham plant in 2000.  The building was sold and machinery was moved to the other branches as needed.

1996 brought about a move of the corporate headquarters to a new 25,000 square foot facility in Delta, B.C., located in the Tilbury Business Park.  The new facility offered improved manufacturing capability, more space for the parts department, improved office facilities, a larger yard, and improved parking.

A new engine line was added in 1999, Doosan (formally known as Daewoo) Diesel Engines.  Doosan built engines for Isuzu and MAN for twenty years.  These engines had been sold in construction equipment and forklifts in the U.S. for fifteen years.

2003 saw the addition of Mitsubishi Diesel Engines to Klassen’s production of generator sets and small marine propulsion engines.  All the Mitsubishi Engine models offered by Klassen are Tier II and CARB certified.

In 2006, FPT marine engines (formally Iveco Motors North America) appointed Klassen Diesel Sales of Delta, B.C. the FPT Marine Engine Distributor for Western Canada.

Klassen’s philosophy is to support products sold.  Customers cannot afford downtime.  Thus, Klassen maintains one of the largest inventories of Isuzu and Daewoo Diesel Engine parts in North America.  Additionally, service technicians are available on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Isuzu Diesel Engines, Isuzu Marine Engines, FPT Marine Diesel Engines, Daewoo Diesel Engines, Doosan Diesel Engines, Mitsubishi Diesel Engines are built into custom marine or industrial power systems by Klassen.  Klassen’s “Lecset®” Generators have earned a reputation for being dependable and long-lived, while operating economically.  Klassen’s “Suzie®” Marine Engines power all sorts of vessels, ranging from water taxis at Vancouver, B.C.’s inner harbor to salmon seiners and tenders in the rugged waters of Alaska, trollers in S.E. Alaska, tuna boats off Hawaii, and squidders off California.

Klassen pioneered marinization of the Isuzu Diesel Engines in North America, and has been building Isuzu Diesel Power Systems for over 40 years.  Isuzu Engines range from 10 HP to 700 HP.  Isuzu generator sets range from 5 kW to 99 kW.

FPT Marine Diesel Engines are available at all locations now.  Klassen is the FPT Marine Engine Distributor for Western Canada. FPT’s factory built marine engines range 100 to 900 HP.

Mitsubishi engines from 8 HP to 70 HP are offered in marine or land-based generator sets ranging from 4 kW to 40 kW.  Klassen offers quality power systems with unmatched product support.

What we have accomplished so far.
Anchors Aweigh Academy and its EverythingAboutBoats.org website.

• Published over 50,000 website pages about boats and boating, bringing us closer to reaching our goal of becoming "The ultimate reference resource about boats and ships for everyone from the beginning recreational boater to the seasoned professional mariner!"

• Published over 9,000 marine vendor webpages, all with their contact information, most with a description of their products and services, many with product documentation, specifications and independent reviews. FROM Donald: "This is an awesome website. I found the information that I needed right away from one of the over 20,000 free articles that you provide as a public service. I'm surprised that so much if this site is free. But I still signed up so I could access the thousands of expanded pages, interesting articles, and dozens of valuable programs! The member's library of books, magazines and videos that I can view online is really terrific! I understand that you and your staff are all unpaid volunteers. Please keep up the good work. And I commend you for your plans to add another 10,000 free informative articles over the next year. I'm thrilled to support you in this endeavor with my small membership donation. They say that it will take about 100,000 articles to cover the full scope that they have envisioned for the website. They have over 20,000 articles so far and that's doing pretty well, but it could take several years to get the rest. I also noticed that many of the Main Topic Pages and some of the article pages are still in the rough draft stage. I guess that they will fill in as they can get volunteers to work on them. But what I can't figure out is why anyone would spend the time writing informative in depth articles just to give away free to this website for publication? What's in it for them?"

FROM Dewey: "Well Huey, to me It looks like most of the articles on this website are written by very informed people, like boating instructors, boat designers, boat builders, riggers, electricians, fitters, marine repair technicians and marine surveyors. Writing such articles helps establish them as knowledgeable professionals. After all, this website was originally created by a school for marine technicians and marine surveyors. The website is growing in content every day. They even had to move to a bigger, more powerful server because the website's traffic has been growing exponentially."

This site is quickly becoming the ultimate reference resource about every aspect of boats and ships for everyone from the beginning recreational boater to the seasoned professional mariner. I use the topic pages on the right sidebar to browse around the website. It's like a Junior Woodchucks' Guidebook for Boaters. Their Members' Library of over 300 popular and obscure books and over 200 magazine back issues that can be viewed online is fabulous. The Academy's magazine is especially informative. On top of that, there is the "Ask-An-Expert program for members where you can get an expert's answer to any of your boat questions. And a whole years membership is only $25. What a deal! I really love being part of this "Everything About Boats" community and help provide thousands of helpful articles free to the public. I think that I'll sit down right now and write an article about my experiences boating with my uncle."

Sure, it has a lot of good information for boaters, and they're adding more every day, but it will probably never be finished. Furthermore, I don't even own a boat.
